Working at an environmental NGO in Romania I couldn't help but try to be more conscious about environmental issues in my own country.  The US is fortunate to have a large, strong NGO that keeps up on and leads movements to protecting our environment and the places we love to escape to sometimes.  Check out the Sierra Club if you haven't yet.  http://www.sierraclub.org/

While living in the city I have really gotten into cruising around town on my bike and bike culture in general.  I have since stumbled across an interactive site that can be used to document rides, research potential bike trips, or share a good time with other enthusiast.  The site consists of a map on which you can plot a potential bike ride as the map calculates both the length of the trip as well as the elevation changes.  You can also check out rides that others have plotted.  Both long and short distance rides are on there so you don't have to feel ashamed if you’re only riding a few kilometers at a time.  Bikemap.net

This link comes complete with a video!  Anybody else here ever have the urge to fill your backpack with dry food and gear and hit the trail for 6 months out of the year?  Ok, maybe "dream" is a better word to use than urge.  If you've read "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson then maybe you've thought about such adventures.  This is a link to a Sierra Club Explore blog article about a man, Kevin Gallagher, who hiked the Appalachian Trail and came off the trail with a little something to show you.  Comment below if you've had the urge/dream of doing a long through hike like that AT and can picture it happening within the next 5 years.

This American Life podcast discussing FRACKING (a term that refers to the method of extracting natural gas).  This topic didn't come to my attention until I went back home after being away for two years.  It outlines the reason for the one major change that has happened in my commuity over the past couple of years.      Game Changer
